    Justice Mahmud Mohammed will be leaving the stage as the 15th Chief Justice of Nigeria on November 10, 2016, the date he will attain the mandatory retirement age of 70.

    The jurist born in Jalingo, capital of Taraba State, on November 10, 1946, took over as the helmsman of the Nigerian judiciary on the 70th birthday of his predecessor, the retired Justice Aloma Mukhtar, on November 20, 2014.

    Between July 16, 2012 and November 20, 2014 when Aloma served as the CJN, Justice Mohammed was second in the seniority rank on the apex court’s bench.

    He also served as the deputy to Aloma in some judiciary institutions, such as the National Judicial Council, which the CJN statutorily heads.

    Early life

    Justice Mohammed was born on November 10, 1946, in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, northeastern Nigeria.[4] He obtained a Bachelor of Law degree at Ahmadu Bello University in 1970 and was called to the Nigerian bar, the same year he graduated from the Nigerian lag School.[5]

    He joined the services of the Ministries of Justice of the defunct North-eastern state as a barrister and in 1991, he became the acting Chief judge of Taraba State, the same year his appointment was confirmed as the ledare Judge of the state.[6] In 2005, he was appointed
