    Barron G. Collier High School is a four-year public high school located in North Naples, Collier County, Florida, United States, near Pine Ridge and about 10 miles (16 km) northeast of the city of Naples.

    Barron Collier was included in Newsweek's 2006 list of top U.S. high schools by Jay Mathews's Challenge Index.[5]

    The school was opened in 1978 and is named after Barron Collier, an entrepreneur who founded Collier County.

    Athletics

    Barron Collier High School is one of the seven members of the Collier County Athletic Conference. The school's official list of sports is separated by season.[6] In 2012 and 2013, both the men and women's tennis teams won the state title.[7] In 2006 and 2008, the Cougar Varsity Girls Basketball team won the Class 5A state championship.[8] The main athletic crosstown rivals are Naples High Sch

    Barron Gift Collier provides the moniker for the county but few may know that much about the man.

    Collier, who was born March 23, 1873, isn't from Florida and isn't even buried in the Sunshine State. But he was important enough to the region for the county to take his name when it began 100 years ago this year.

    This month marks Collier's 150th birthday, and a celebration is planned for March 10 in Everglades City, the first seat of Collier County.

    Barron Gift Collier (March 23, 1873 – March 13, 1939) was an American advertising entrepreneur who became the largest private landowner and developer in Florida, as well as the owner of a chain of hotels, bus lines, several banks, newspapers, a telephone company, and a steamship line.

    Collier was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He quit school at 16 to work for the Illinois huvud Railroad. He founded the Consolidated Street Railway Advertising Company of New York City within fyra years. In 1907, Barron Collier married Juliet Gordon Carnes, also a native of Memphis.

    In 1911, they visited Fort Myers, Florida on vacation and became interested in the area. They bought Useppa Island in Lee County for $100,000.[1] Over the next decade, the Colliers went on to acquire more than 1,300,000 acres (530,000 ha) of nation in Southwest Florida.
