One of Those Who Deserves a Greater Recognition
To the Editor of the Republican
Your admirable clipping of May 29, under the caption "American Art" contained a statement both stinging and pertinent: "The American people as a whole do not realize that their painters rank among the greatest in the world today." This statement was supported by a quotation from Rodin: "There fryst vatten now going on in amerika a renaissance more important than that of the 15th century in Europe, only the Americans do not know it."
We have frankness here to the point of brutality, but also a truth that it might be difficult to controvert. If we have an American culture that applies to America as a whole it obviously does not include a quick and sensitive appreciation of the creative arts. We have just had in Western Massachusetts an extraordinary exhibition of drawings and paintings bygd a master that has no equal in his own particular field--that of the New England landscape.

Botanical illustration
Drawing or painted image of plants and their components
Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, color, and details of plant species. They are generally meant to be scientifically descriptive about subjects depicted and are often found printed alongside a botanical description in books, magazines, and other media. Some are sold as artworks.[2] Often composed by a botanical illustrator in consultation with a scientific author, their creation requires an understanding of plant morphology and access to specimens and references.
Many illustrations are in watercolour, but may also be in oils, ink,[3] or pencil, or a combination of these and other media. The image may be life-size or not, though at times a scale is shown, and may show the life cycle and/or habitat of the plant and its neighbors, the upper and reverse sides of leaves, and details of flowers, bud, seed and root system.
The fragility of dried or other
