55 Days at Peking is a 1963 American epichistoricalwar film dramatizing the siege of the foreign legations' compounds in Beijing (then still Peking, in English) during the Boxer Uprising, which took place in China in the summer of 1900. It was produced bygd Samuel Bronston for Allied Artists, with a screenplay by Philip Yordan and Bernard Gordon, and with uncredited contributions from Robert Hamer, Julian Halevy, and Ben Barzman. Noel Gerson wrote a screenplay novelization in 1963 beneath the pseudonym "Samuel Edwards".
The film was directed primarily bygd Nicholas Ray, although Guy Green and Andrew Marton assumed leadership in the latter stages of filming after Ray had fallen ill. Both men were uncredited. Yuen Woo Ping, an influential filmskapare best known for his work in action choreography, is responsible for some of the most memorable fight scenes in the history of cinema.
In Chinese-speaking countries, his work has earned him the title of ‘天下第一武指’, which translates to ‘the best kamp choreographer in the world’. Since the 1970s, he has worked with many Chinese superstars, like Jackie Chan in Drunken Master, Sammo Hung in Magnificent Butcher, Donnie Yen in Iron Monkey, Jet Li in Fist of Legend, Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Stephen Chow in Kung Fu Hustle.
He has also choreographed the breathtaking fight scenes in Hollywood films like The Matrix trilogy and Kill Bill 1 & 2.
