    HYDERABAD: The five-day Shaikh Ayaz festival organised under the aegis of the Khana Badosh Writers’ Cafe continued to draw big crowds on Saturday with visitors taking keen interest in the books, paintings and souvenirs put on display at various stalls. Most of the books and other articles are by or related to Shaikh Ayaz and his poetry.

    The festival got under way on Dec 21 when luminaries like Awami Tehreek founder chief Rasool Bakhsh Palijo, MPA Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, former advocate-general Yousuf Leghari and Hyderabad Commissioner Qazi Shahid Pervez highlighted the various aspects of the poetic works of Shaikh Ayaz, one of the great poets of Sindh. Festival organisers Arfana Mallah and Amar Sindhu also spoke.

    Mr Palijo said the poet introduced modern literature in his works.

    He said Shaikh Ayaz was brave and upright although he used to get serious threats to his life. He added that edicts were issued against him but he never surrendered.
