The novel follows a young boy, Capricorn "Cap" Anderson raised in an isolated hippie commune who is sent to live with foster parents and attend public school following his grandmother's accident.
Plot
[edit]Capricorn Anderson, nicknamed "Cap," and his grandmother, Rain, are hippies living on Garland Farm, a far-removed commune with no telephone service. Cap is arrested for driving without a license while trying to take Rain to the hospital after an injury she sustained climbing a tree. Rain's injury requires her to undergo physical therapy for two months, leaving Capricorn without a caretaker or a teacher. Capricorn is sent to live with social worker Flora Donnelly, a former resident of Garland Farm, after she realizes that she herself is the best person to look after Cap. Canadian American author (born 1963)
Gordon Korman (born October 23, 1963) is a Canadian author of children's and young adult fiction books.[1] Korman's books have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide over a career spanning four decades and have appeared at number one on The New York Times Best Seller list.[2][3]
Early life
[edit]Korman was born in Montreal, Quebec, where he lived until 1970.[4] He grew up in Thornhill, Ontario (just north of Toronto) and attended German Mills Public School and public high school at Thornlea Secondary School.[1][5]
He moved to the United States to attend university at New York University where he studied film and film-writing.[6] Korman received a BFA from New York University in 1985;[1] with a degree in dramatic visual writing and a minor in motion picture and television.
