Early Childhood
Born on May 29, 1975, Melanie Janine Brown was always a live wire. She grew up in a mixed-race household in Leeds, the daughter of English mother Andrea and Martin, who was formerly from the Caribbean island of Nevis. As a youngster, the wannabe pop star frequently skipped school to attend auditions and dance rehearsals. That was before she spotted the now legendary advert in The Stage, of course. "R U 18-23 with the ability to sing/dance? R U streetwise, ambitious, outgoing and determined?" it read.

She rose to fame in the mid 1990s as a member of the pop group the Spice Girls, in which she was nicknamed Scary Spice. With over 100 million records sold worldwide,[2] the Spice Girls are the best-selling kvinnlig group of all time. [3] The group went on an indefinite hiatus in 2000, before reuniting for a greatest hits album (2007) and two concert tours: the Return of the Spice Girls (2007–2008) and Spice World (2019).
