Pathogenesis of peripheral arterial disease
What is Peripheral Artery Occlusive Disease (PAD)?
Peripheral Arterial Disease encompasses extremity arterial disease but generally is used to describe lower limb arterial occlusive disease. Peripheral Artery Occlusive Disease (PAD) is a more specific begrepp and this encompasses atherosclerotic disease of the lower limb arteries.
The disease has a step-wise spectrum of presentations from asymptomatic disease to intermittent claudication and finally chronic limb threatening ischemia (CLTI) formerly known as Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) (Aboyans et al. )
